On two days Jan-Erik and me are going to visit Karosta,
www.karosta.lv, http://karosta.edworks.net/, an old base used by
Russia and for the Sovjet as military enclave. The history of Karosta
is very special, when Sovjet left Karosta the population decreased
with several thousands in a few days. In Karosta were left the
empoverished people who didn't want or couldn't go back to Russia.
Many of the children were born in Latvia but were raised by Russian
parents and only spoke Russian. Two artists, Kirsti Briede and Calle
Björkman, took over the main buildings and are running a project
called K@2.
The project is part of an exploration of the subject borders and
crossings, illegal aliens and interactions. The Crusades were not only
aimed to the South and to the East, the German Knights used huge
military power to colonize, conquest and evangelize the peoples in the
North, Latvians, Finns, Ests, Russian.
We are going to show a filmfestival composed by films showing the
South border with the walls of Ceuta and Melilla and other issues
related to our topics.
In these globalization days the official rethoric is the mobility of
wares and services but never the mobility of people, making new maps
of elected nationality, language and affections.
